DIRT BLOG: Our ATV Of The Year Is…

If you want to know what the ATV Magazine 2010 ATV Of The Year today, one month before it’s formally announced, you just have to be in the right place today!
That’s because, right now at a secret location, a photo shoot is being conducted with that particular machine for the cover of our June/July issue of ATV Magazine. Right now, only about a half-dozen people know our selection – by the second week of June, however, the magazine will be in the hands of more than 150,000 ATV-owning households, announcements will be made on this web site and elsewhere, and the winner will be broadly celebrated (and likely debated – just like every year).
Our ATV Of The Year process has always been about innovation, technology and market appeal. Our selection does not necessarily mean that the honored machine is the best ATV available, nor does it mean it’s the right ATV for you. I mean, if you were a sport quad racer two years ago, our selection of the Sportsman 800 Touring should not have gotten you to sell your machine and buy a two-upper for the track.
That said, our ATV Of The Year choice always is a very good ATV that is pushing the market forward with features or innovations. If you want to make an educated guess at what our ATV Of The Year is for 2010, I encourage you to consider each brand’s model lineup and look for machines that are unique or that are breaking new ground in their particular segment.
Sorry, that’s the end of the hints from me – you’ll have to wait about a month to learn more about our selection.
In the meantime, however, I’d like to encourage you to start thinking about which machines you think deserve special attention, because we’re going to let our readers and web viewers produce their own awards. Our program, tentatively called “Readers Choice Awards,” will allow you to vote online for which machines you think are the best in several different categories.
We’ll give you more information about this process as it gets closer, but June will be a good month to hang out on our main site (www.atvmagonline.com) to have your voice heard and to defend your brand or model in our first-time voting process. Stay tuned.
