I always preach to our riders that the two keys to performance nutrition is balance and consistency. There are not any secret foods, or complicated programs that will be the tools for success, but balance and consistency. “So what is balance,” you may ask? It’s important to just look at the main macro nutrients of proteins, carbohydrates and fats.

There are many “programs” which say theirs is the correct way, but really most people are in the middle ranges in terms of how many grams per day one should consume. Most people are what’s called “mid oxidizers”, meaning that their digestive system is set up to break down a certain range of foods efficiently. This balance is broken down to percentages of protein-35%, carbohydrates-55% and fats-10%. “How do i figure out how much that is”, you again may ask? The best way is to educate yourself. The first time you changed the oil on your bike, you may of not known the appropriate steps, but you looked it up or talked to someone about it to educate yourself. It’s the same here. Our MotoX Nutrition WORCS pro Brandon Brown is a great example, he’s very dedicated to improving his performance, he’s great to work with his great work ethic and willingness to learn and improve. Look at labels, look up on line a nutrient counter or some other free and easy program.Print it out for easy access. Once you look 2-3 times, you’ll always know that 4oz. of chicken is worth 20grams of protein. You’ll also learn once you weigh out 4oz. of chicken 2-3 times, that 4oz. of any protein meat source is simply the size of a deck of playing cards. About 3/4 inch high and about 2 X 3 inches in length and width. You’ll simply eyeball it after that. You’ll never have to weigh up your protein serving again.

It really does become automatic after a while. The same will be true of measuring out 50 grams of carbohydrates which is about cup of rice, potato or pasta. Most of the time, if your eating your proteins consistently, your 10% from fats will automatically be incorporated into your diet. Creating a nutritional balance is really fairly easy with very little time invested, and it can last a lifetime of healthy eating habits along the way. Stay tuned for the next blog where I will get into how to create the consistent habit required to dial in your body like a machine.
